Van Life | Alone on the Road
Lately, Iβve been alone. Alone with my thoughts, alone with my fears, just.. alone. This one is a little more vulnerable than the rest. Thanks for being here, I appreciate you β‘

Hey π Iβm Christian Schaffer, and Iβve lived on the road full-time for four years. I left the corporate world to pursue travel and photography in 2013, and I haven't looked back since. In May 2018, I moved out of my apartment in Seattle and into my 4x4 Nissan Xterra. For fourteen months, I saved up to buy a new van and hire a team to build my dream home on wheels. Iβm a professional outdoor adventure & travel photographer, but Iβm new to video. Iβm really just out here chasing beautiful views and golden light while living in a 50 sq ft home on wheels. I hope that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time in the great outdoors. Thanks for being here. Maybe one day I'll see you out on that open road π

Living a Double Life
Sometimes it feels as though Iβm living a double life... a life where the only constant is change, and nothing is ever really here to stay. In this video, we go from chasing stability in Santa Fe, New Mexico to a client/influencer shoot for Mazda in Santa Barbara, California. Then to Taos, New Mexico before driving directly into a high wind warning in canyon country, Utah. Thanks for being here β‘

under Utah skies
After a wild day of lightning, hail and thunderstorms - I made the long drive out to Green River overlook on a whim. I was the only person there - not a single other car in sight. It was dark and gloomy and the sun was already set. Or, so I thought. Just as I put my van into park, the sky opened up. A double rainbow arched across the canyon and rays of light shot like beams through the raindrops, clear across to the red rock. I was so in awe, it took me a minute to even grab my camera. The whole show lasted for more than ten minutes, and then became a wave of pastel clouds moving over the canyon before the rain set in again. It was a perfect moment of solitude that assured me I was exactly where I was supposed to be. Out on the road, living life one moment at a time. Under Utah skies.
Thanks for your patience with my slow uploads π Can't wait to share the whole journey with you in a full video β‘ -
Van Life | Endless Freedom or Chaotic Instability?
Would you rather have endless freedom but no stability, or a home and stability but limited freedom? Itβs a question I ask myself often, and an area where Iβm always trying to strike some kind of balance. I found a little bit of both in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Along with some beautiful views and a much needed hot bath. Thanks for being here π

Van Life | Falling in Love with the Road Again
Every year for the past four years, Iβve left the Pacific Northwest to chase warmer weather. This year, I considered renting a place for the winter and taking a break from the road. But it's nearly February and I still have no plans to stay in one place. Instead, I think I've fallen in love with the road all over again. Thanks for being here β‘ #vanlife

Italy | This Was Once My Home
Ten years ago, I lived and worked in Italy. In this video, I share a little bit about that former life - and how different it is experiencing Italy now on my own terms. From our base in Cortina d'Ampezzo, we explore Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Lago di Braies and also climb through a network of World War 1 trenches and tunnels built into the side of a mountain. This is my third and final video from the Italian Dolomites -- excited to catch you up on everything van life in the next video. Happy New Year Ya'll π
Huge thanks to @Nathaniel Wise for filming me in so many of these beautiful places - couldnβt have made this video without him
